An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, or a place to find adventures, a starting ground for quests and legends.

In this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her.

But an inn is what she found, and so that’s what she becomes. An innkeeper who serves drinks to heroes and monsters–

Actually, mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

This is the story of the Wandering Inn.

So good that I support the author on Patreon

A bit hard to get through at the beginning (for someone who is used to the average RRL novel), with the MC constantly on the run and in trouble, but it is definitely worth it. This is not a wish fulfillment novel with an OP MC. It's about normal people sent to world of magic and levels without any knowledge or abilities, trying to adapt and survive.

Characters are very likeable, feel real and are consistent in their motivations. They are growing and getting used to the world around them, getting small victories and dealing with setbacks.

So far there have been only small hints of an overarching plot, but the arcs are interesting enough.

MASTERPIECE, JUST MASTERPIECE

Good, no, great pace - check.

No annoying RPG grinding - check.

Easy readable, consistent phrasing - check.

Unique and not overused ideas - check.

That points alone make this novel worthwhile reading, but this one have more. It have something captivating, something that made me fight my drowsiness to read another chapter. And another. And another. I know it's not going anywhere, but i can't help myself being immersed in reading, in this world and it's people. Being fantasy, it touch ever actual themes of classic literature.

It's been told, that before Clifford Simak writers used people to show spaceship, but Simak started use spaceships to show people. Author here follows that principle, (s)he use another world and magic to show people.

It's sad how publishers makes huge profits of "50 shades" of porn. BUT! There is some authors, who write interesting books with interesting thoughts for free. And it's marvelous.

Added:

Characters growth and vision of the world based on critical moments of their lives, on their decisions made by both logic and emotions, instead of some dubious out-of-the-blue reasons. But such moments are rare, which makes story feel real.

Thuthfully, there shouldn't be "LitRPG" tag on this novel, because there is no major elements of this genre. Yeah, there is some blue screens, but those exist mainly for one character to reject them, otherwise skills, status and all that stuff doesn't affect story at all.

The writing is beautiful, descriptive, and most of all free of any/most gramatical errors! The style is amazing, really descriptive. The writing transports its readers into the world, its beautiful, just lovely.

The characters are fully fleshed out. They grow, they feel real. They have defined personalities and are colorful and sometimes unpredictable, like REAL people. Not some over characterized stereotype. Plus the mc isn't op, though she isn't weak either; she has her own way of getting around!

The presentation is also great. The spacing of paragraphs and what not. It's not just some giant wall of text, it flows freely in an organised manner.

There are also a fair few chapters out, they aren't short either! Making this fun to pick up and to hopefully continue following.

This fiction is VERY good and I hope the writer continues. I hope this becomes one of the very few finished series here on royalroadl!

One of the few stories on RRL that have captured and held my attention. Erin is my absolute favorite, because it is not very often that you come across a character so fucking genuine and lovable. Excuse my french, but I can't find a way to describe just how much I enjoy this without cursing, because cursing emphasizes.

Ok, more in depth now.

The story mainly follows two female characters, nothing too exciting, however, the author doesn't fall into the trap that the Allegiant or Hunger Game authors fell into, which is making the story about having a female lead. Erin and Ryoka are not the main characters because they're female, they are the main characters because they're the main characters, they both just happen to be girls. And I really appreciate that.

The plot itself is also good. There's obviously something going on in the background with all the summonings and whatnot, but it doesn't run to fast. The story's turning into an undertaking of grand proportions, without forcing the speed of the story. It's continuing at a pleasant pace, and I find myself satisfied with what I've recieved every chapter.

There aren't any glaring issues with The Wandering Inn. Certainly it won't be everyone's cup of tea, and I almost dropped it when they delved into the ruins because what happened to the Horns pissed me off, but I'm glad I didn't and I'm glad that it returned to its relatively light tone afterwards. (The only reason I wanted to drop it was because I was afraid the author would continue on the dark train of events...like SO MANY other stories on this site.)

This is definetly one of the gems of RRL. The early chapters might be a bit slow or not that amazing (still good) but i picks up after a short time. Good charakters with development, cool world and an interesting and highly captivating story. I can just recommend everyone who takes a look at this review to read it. And i can only take of my hat off to the Author and thank him for sharing his/her story with us.

A veritable fairy tale

In my opinion, there is one key difference between a good story and a great one once it reaches a certain quality :

(Once the grammar is nearly faultless and the author matures his own style, the story contains flavorful characters, a great worldbuilding, humor and many other still important aspects)

the emotions which the story succeeds in arousing in the reader.

Overseer by Solista is the only other fiction on RR coming to my mind approximately managing to pull it off, but The Wandering Inn does it clearly. With a poetry to it that gives the story its uniqueness.

To the point that this story is my favorite on RR and I consider each new chapter a real treat that I can't stop grinning when I see it posted.

An absolute must read !

Good story, love the non-OP MC.

This a great story about someone living in another world where the MC (to me that's Erin and not Ryoka) is not OP.  In fact Erin could be considered very weak compared to everyone else but she's like a mouse with the courage of a lion.

Plot-wise I prefer the Erin story over the Ryoka story, and currently I treat them as two different stories although I know they will come together later into one story.  Erin really brings this story to life.

A hidden gem, I wish I found sooner.

I must admit that I was not expecting much from this story. I thought it to be another transported MC going from overly cliche situation to the next with carboard side characters. Boy was I wrong. The MC is likeable, the world building is solid and although it starts slow ( in my opinion ) it is all worth it. The side characters all have their own charm which makes the reading experience even more pleasant. I have nothing but gratitude for the author for the fast speed of release and the work that goes into every chapter. Keep up the good work.

The brightest Sunday I’ve ever seen. I may be blind.

*scratches title into the wandering inn guestbook*

The Wandering Inn is a fantastic inversion of the typical "Summoned Hero" trope. The summoned girl is no hero, she barely survives her first day in the new world. Rather than adventuring or becoming stronger, she finds a burned out village and claims the ruins of an inn as her new home. And the seeds of a great story begin from there.

The primary weakness of the wandering inn is that the plot might advance a tad too slowly. The author's committment to creating a real world aside, the plot is strong and the characters are multi-dimensional. I even learned to love a weird-alien-ant-thing.
