An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, or a place to find adventures, a starting ground for quests and legends.

In this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her.

But an inn is what she found, and so that’s what she becomes. An innkeeper who serves drinks to heroes and monsters–

Actually, mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

This is the story of the Wandering Inn.

So good that I support the author on Patreon

A bit hard to get through at the beginning (for someone who is used to the average RRL novel), with the MC constantly on the run and in trouble, but it is definitely worth it. This is not a wish fulfillment novel with an OP MC. It's about normal people sent to world of magic and levels without any knowledge or abilities, trying to adapt and survive.

Characters are very likeable, feel real and are consistent in their motivations. They are growing and getting used to the world around them, getting small victories and dealing with setbacks.

So far there have been only small hints of an overarching plot, but the arcs are interesting enough.

MASTERPIECE, JUST MASTERPIECE

Good, no, great pace - check.

No annoying RPG grinding - check.

Easy readable, consistent phrasing - check.

Unique and not overused ideas - check.

That points alone make this novel worthwhile reading, but this one have more. It have something captivating, something that made me fight my drowsiness to read another chapter. And another. And another. I know it's not going anywhere, but i can't help myself being immersed in reading, in this world and it's people. Being fantasy, it touch ever actual themes of classic literature.

It's been told, that before Clifford Simak writers used people to show spaceship, but Simak started use spaceships to show people. Author here follows that principle, (s)he use another world and magic to show people.

It's sad how publishers makes huge profits of "50 shades" of porn. BUT! There is some authors, who write interesting books with interesting thoughts for free. And it's marvelous.

Added:

Characters growth and vision of the world based on critical moments of their lives, on their decisions made by both logic and emotions, instead of some dubious out-of-the-blue reasons. But such moments are rare, which makes story feel real.

Thuthfully, there shouldn't be "LitRPG" tag on this novel, because there is no major elements of this genre. Yeah, there is some blue screens, but those exist mainly for one character to reject them, otherwise skills, status and all that stuff doesn't affect story at all.

The writing is beautiful, descriptive, and most of all free of any/most gramatical errors! The style is amazing, really descriptive. The writing transports its readers into the world, its beautiful, just lovely.

The characters are fully fleshed out. They grow, they feel real. They have defined personalities and are colorful and sometimes unpredictable, like REAL people. Not some over characterized stereotype. Plus the mc isn't op, though she isn't weak either; she has her own way of getting around!

The presentation is also great. The spacing of paragraphs and what not. It's not just some giant wall of text, it flows freely in an organised manner.

There are also a fair few chapters out, they aren't short either! Making this fun to pick up and to hopefully continue following.

This fiction is VERY good and I hope the writer continues. I hope this becomes one of the very few finished series here on royalroadl!

One of the few stories on RRL that have captured and held my attention. Erin is my absolute favorite, because it is not very often that you come across a character so fucking genuine and lovable. Excuse my french, but I can't find a way to describe just how much I enjoy this without cursing, because cursing emphasizes.

Ok, more in depth now.

The story mainly follows two female characters, nothing too exciting, however, the author doesn't fall into the trap that the Allegiant or Hunger Game authors fell into, which is making the story about having a female lead. Erin and Ryoka are not the main characters because they're female, they are the main characters because they're the main characters, they both just happen to be girls. And I really appreciate that.

The plot itself is also good. There's obviously something going on in the background with all the summonings and whatnot, but it doesn't run to fast. The story's turning into an undertaking of grand proportions, without forcing the speed of the story. It's continuing at a pleasant pace, and I find myself satisfied with what I've recieved every chapter.

There aren't any glaring issues with The Wandering Inn. Certainly it won't be everyone's cup of tea, and I almost dropped it when they delved into the ruins because what happened to the Horns pissed me off, but I'm glad I didn't and I'm glad that it returned to its relatively light tone afterwards. (The only reason I wanted to drop it was because I was afraid the author would continue on the dark train of events...like SO MANY other stories on this site.)

Bear with me, and read it, man.

I'd like to note, that I dislike the severe lack of negative comments on the novels here. It's like, you pick a novel and it's all fluff and balls rubbing/ The best, the very best of this site. ETC ETC. Well damn me, I hope this one will get seen, like at all.

First and foremost, despite the grim beginning, I am a big fan. It's one of a handful of stories, wich I look toward when checking Active-Only category. And it's quite frequently - considering the volume of each chapter - updated. So. If it's all awesome why the beginning? What's with the stars?

There's a big beef I've got to pick up with the author. I mean, it sounds pompous and arrogant, considering I'm but a simple-minded reader who get's all this awesome free... but man how does it grind my gears, especially lately... with how the story get's CRACKED. This is the story that equaled of story of Erin. Amazeball character, so likeable despite overlall naivety and sometimes amazingly annoying derp-traits. But. Big Bad But. For some time now, I have found, to my distress and distaste, Erin has been out. Of her novel. It was supposed to be a tale of this lovable inkeeper and her struggles, but for some time now, there's more and more of other characters. I barely stomach Ryouka, wich is a dumb bitch in my simple eyes, unlikable bastard. And she started as a chapter with a letter! A sign that it is a sidestory. But for some godonlyknowsthereason, the author begun pulling out chapters without letters that are all or mostly Ryouka! And it split even further! I have to  admit, Lyonette, as of the time of this review being written, came leagues of annoying little shit she started with. While GODDAMN RYOUKA is still arrogant, unlikable prick! Waste of space! Bah. There is interesting emperor guy, and some goblins and Toren... but the hell where it became a mishmash of everything but Erin?! Let me count it, really fast, not counting hidden Ryouka chapters. For last 27, 17 was about different ppl. Dislike.

Not so wandering inn as you would expect

I hate and love this novel at the same time.

What you should expect in this novel:

  • Lots and lots of chess
  • Agonising first chapters
  • Very slow progress. In 3 book, there are so many new points of view, from all the characters(~10), that story begins to slow even more.
  • A whole long chapter about periods
  • Logic? - Umm... Is it tasty?
  • Some sort of action/tragedy/combat almost every chapter
  • Amazing side characters - they all have their interests, secrets and stories
  • Tragedy and gore
  • Long chapters
  • While novel has LitRPG tag, leveling system is not very interesting and there is not much in main characters progress with levels or skills
  • Main characters with tick plot armour - they have no skills or abilities to survive, but they magically do in a world where even a fly can explode
  • ... and they doesn't even try to learn survival classes after almost dying every 5 days

In this novel there are two main female protagonists.

Erin - a silly girl who is super chatty and is genius in chess. She ignores all dangers and forgets most important things just after hearing them...

Ryoka - half Japanese genius girl. She is angry at almost everyone and everything except her IPhone and barefoot running. And she has berserk mode. But in second book she seems to be improving.

While I hate main characters, this novels is amazing in its side characters and their interactions between themselves and main characters. Also author likes to place characters from one mess, straight to another, so its quite entertaining.

This is definetly one of the gems of RRL. The early chapters might be a bit slow or not that amazing (still good) but i picks up after a short time. Good charakters with development, cool world and an interesting and highly captivating story. I can just recommend everyone who takes a look at this review to read it. And i can only take of my hat off to the Author and thank him for sharing his/her story with us.

I read it earlier on wordpress's website and I like it very much. Realistic description of transfer to a magical world without op character.

I like how mc trying to live in the inn near the town inhabited only by other races than humans and although the law does not prohibit humans to be in the city, it does not mean fantasy races always treat people as equals, but still not they all discriminate against humans. Description different races from humans by only physique and habits is done right and occasionally mutual animosity between humans and monsters is understandable. Interactions betwen human and monster are done very well especially related to the main character who runs the inn with clients rarely humans and although regular attendees are not much, their characters are outlined well enough.

Mc character develops logically, considering the fact that she is not perfect and brutality of this world leaves psychological scars on her.

The important thing, mc is not overpowered and is not a killing machine, she dislike killing even in self-defense, though she will fight to survive, she always feels guilty. if you are looking for action novels, I'm afraid you may be disappointed, this novel has a slow pace, but there is no lack of intense scenes they are only rarer.

Word building is only scratched, although shown fragments give hope.  The main axis of the story is built slowly, but multidimensional, so it is difficult to predict what awaits mc, so far I am satisfied.

The only problem I have is with the other main protagonist,  her story although important is not interesting as the main story because of this other main character psychologically interesting, did not gain my sympathy.

Not always the choice of both protagonist convinced me, but overall I am willing to admit that it can have some sense in their heads or they did not think too much about the consequences. Happily, in most cases, I have no major objections.

Edit. More chapters moved story event on a larger scale and more epic. All this is still building slowly, but we see this is done carefully and interesting. Before,  I have written that another main character doesn't get my sympathy, so I can tell this is not actual,  her character development is done well. This time I might have objections to the decision of the first hero,  if not the fact the wrong decisions fit her character in most cases, but still, she should think often about the consequences.

Good story, love the non-OP MC.

This a great story about someone living in another world where the MC (to me that's Erin and not Ryoka) is not OP.  In fact Erin could be considered very weak compared to everyone else but she's like a mouse with the courage of a lion.

Plot-wise I prefer the Erin story over the Ryoka story, and currently I treat them as two different stories although I know they will come together later into one story.  Erin really brings this story to life.
