Eldritch Night

This was a review swap that I ended up being happy to take. I don't read Lit-RPGs often, but I'm trying to change that.

Style: The author's style is by and large fine, however, sometimes when flashbacks are introduced, it can make things initially confusing. All in all, it's not that big of an issue. Everything typically flows easily as far as understanding mechanics and story.

Grammar: Not an issue. 

Story: There are some pacing issues in the first 5 chapters, but I have to say that when the story picks up after that, it flows much better and feels more natural. The author also has a good grip on the RPG system they're using, typically stat screens don't really mean anything to me, but in this, they give me insight on how far they need to progress to level up. It's always great to give the readers a goal that the character's working toward. 

Character: Finn doesn't seem fleshed out yet, but it's early as of yet. I feel confident, especially through flashbacks, that there'll be more characterization moving forward. 

Overall: With Lovecraftian themes, aliens, and alternate Charleston setting, this is a unique story that continues to interest me. If you're looking for a unique take on the genre, as far as RRL is concerned, give this a try. I think you'll like it. 

I wish I had stumbled across this a year from now. While the story is an iteration of the Randidly Ghosthound format, it's killing it on multiple levels. Keep up the good work.

The story follows the adventures of Gus, a man who when the apocalypse started, had the bad luck of seeing the horror that is an eldritch God.

The style is good, with descriptions of places and emotions that manage to immerse you in the story, better than most other stories out there. 

The story itself isn't the most original but managed to stand out because of not having an unnecessary overpowered class or cheat for it's MC, besides it also manages to portrait eldritch beings as that, not just mass of tentacles, but abominations. 

The grammar is very good, I haven't seen any obvious error. 

The characters feel "real" And aren't just there for the MC but have their own motivation and Personalities, bonus points for not having the MC being an edgy teenager or master strategist, and for making a true eldritch mage. 

Only seven chapters so far, but it is an excellent read. No grammar errors, fairly fast paced and the MC isn't overpowered. Definitely looking forward to reading more.

Great story and I love how it has that little touch of love craft seen it tried a few times but this is a huge success and I love how tech still is supposed to work like in another book I love enough lead will bring anything down

This story is a rollercoaster ride of adventure, danger, and suspense, and had me on the edge of my seat for every word.  It follows a boy named Gus (Augustus) as he navigates a game style world and fights for his own life.

The style is fresh and original, although a lot of times the pace was a little too fast and I felt like you needed to step back and go into a lot more fleshing out of the characters, the setting, and the plot.  Your descriptions were really good, but I think that if you took more time to focus on the characters and what you are bringing out of them in each scene, it would make your writing a lot stronger.

The grammar is fine, although I try not to judge based on that.  It's far better than most grammar on this site, and I rarely saw mistakes.

The story itself is my favorite part.  It's really gripping and suspenseful, making me want to cling to every word and find out for myself what is going on and what is going to happen next.  The plot is amazing, and the story is fresh and original despite being a very common genre.  I look forward to continuing reading the next chapters and seeing for myself what happens next.  

The characters could use a little fleshing out- there were times where Gus's behavior felt a little irrational and wasn't really backed up.  But he is an extremely unique character who is not in any way OP, who has quirks and flaws just like anyone else, which I greatly admire and commend the author for.  

This is written at the time of chapter 28 and there'll be spoilers in here up until then.

If this wasn't a different account to the guy who wrote Randidly Ghosthound (RG for short), I'd be thinking that the author was exactly the same.

Let's start off with the MC. The similarities between the two are staggering.
Both started off in a dungeon (which should be impossible in both cases). Both needed someone else to save them from it. Both then had that someone else train them, the only difference being that these guys are a faction whereas the one in RG was a single person. Both have an external force helping them out and giving them an edge over everyone else. Both also have something trying to control them (that same something probably being the reason they started out in a dungeon in the first place).

The 'system' is pretty much a carbon copy. You gain skills in exactly the same way (not that that really means anything since most litRPG fics on here are the same in that aspect). Feats here are Paths in RG. The descriptions of them are written in exactly the same style. The way to progress in Feats are exactly the same as how RG does it with Paths (when you level a skill, you get a point that you can use to put into whichever Feat you want). Even the way the MC looks and analyses Feats and chooses which ones to pick next is exactly the same as how RG's MC does it. The way the 'system' let's the MC know that something is wrong (talking about that corruption Feat) is the same as RG's method (that heretic Path). I wouldn't be surprised if the 'system' sent stuff to take out the MC because of that corruption the same way RG's 'system' did because of heretic.

The 'bad guy' plot is different though. The 'bad guy' wants to destroy the world and the 'system' is there so you can level up and take it out and... oh no, wait, that sounds familiar too...

Even the writing style is almost identical to RG's author's writing style, that being the reason why I'd think the author is exactly the same if this wasn't a different account. This is why the style and grammar score are so high because they're both well done. The characters around the MC are all authentic and don't revolve around him, there's a nice mix between humor and seriousness and not much, if any, spelling or grammar errors.

The story and character score are so low because they're basically a copy-paste of Randidly Ghosthound, just with a bunch of renaiming.

In summary: if you want a few extra Randidly Ghosthound chapters every week, then this is for you.

Like a lot of stories on royal road this starts out pretty good and promising but after the initial premise its like the author has no idea what to do next and falls into all the usual bad tropes

thats why most reviews for stories when there are less than ten chapters tend to be very postive artificially inflating its rating and what the readers see in reviews

but now we start to see the slump after the initial burst of creativity, the power scales are all messed up, the MC is just stupid and not in a realistic way, plot armor and god powers abound making this your avarege Overpowered main character with no personality and suffering from everything most bad webnovels/lightnovels suffer from

This is actually one of the best litrpg books on this website. I did expect a bit more horror but overall it isn't bad.

Plot: the author pulls out the apocalypse dice and rolls up lovecraft. The main character, Gus gets caught in a dungeon and then ends up fighting in the same dungeon. Add in another apocalypse on top of the first one.

Yeah, the world is ruin but it can always get worse.

The game system reminds me of a lot of So I'm a Spider, so what? Skills evolve from other skills and you can easily become god king. This is by design the monsters get weird and strong pretty early. But it doesn't feel that the characters are too strong.

I am picky about what books I read. Too many grammar errors, too much unrealistic story telling and I have to put it down. As I have read this a few chapters shy from the ends I can tell you it is worth a look at.

My main problems is that I think the author jammed a big twist and he didn't make me care or know enough about that character. Also the book is in first person perspective.
