What if every magical creature you'd ever heard of was real, driven into hiding by an army of violent zealots? This is reality for Sarah Heisen and Porter Collins. Sarah is a sphinx living a life of luxury in her family's mansion. Hidden from all danger, but shut off from the world, she wants nothing more than to escape. Porter is the Slayer's most promising recruit, and his skill is matched only by his hatred for those he hunts. The two are brought together as enemies, but fate has different plans for them. When an accident erases Porter's memory, he clings to Sarah for support. Now they are lost, injured, and helpless. If they want to survive, they will have to work together- and they may change the world as a result.

On May 23, 2034, the sun was eclipsed by an unknown object. Continents previously illuminated from the sun were shrouded in darkness instantly.
Panic ensued. Scientists were baffled at the sudden appearance of the alien object. Theists prayed to their gods in hope of salvation. Politicians and leaders were evacuated to shelters. Civilians were taken to public shelters. Houses and schools were abandoned. Stores were looted for supplies to prepare for the "end of the world". Car accidents, boats and planes crashed, all from the sudden disappearance of light. Chaos ensued on one half of the Earth.
2 hours after the world went dark a sound was transmitted directly into the minds of every living thing. People asleep were forcefully awakened from the ear-splitting noise. All around the world, animals and humans alike, were inhibited from shock upon hearing it. The sound they heard was the ringing of a microphone, and shortly afterwards, the voice of a man. Very clearly the voice was translated to each persons respective language as the man spoke.
"What was this planet called again? Earth? Really? Only about 8.5 billion?"
"This is going to be fun" he sarcastically mumbled.
"What's the race? Humans? Last human planet we had was a few millenniums ago, right? They were all pretty weak. Oh well let's just get this over with."
The man sighed.
"O- Oh this this thing on? That's awkward"
He finally realized he was already talking to the world. One could picture the man scratch the back of his head as he said this.
"Anyways, listen up everyone! I'm only going to explain this once, so don’t forget any of it. You’re all about to partake in a game!”
P.S : COMPLETE

AUTHOR'S NOTE - In deference to reader feedback, I have ELIMINATED scenes that clashed with character concepts. - (No romance) - Blood, violence, brotherhood, and treacherous serpents eager to strike are still as before.
This is NOT litRPG (but if you like litRPG please check out Endless Online: Oblivion's Blade :) - This is epic fantasy, treacherous and bloody. The hero pays a cost in humiliation, pain, and revels in her bloodthirst. - If you like such fare, I hope you enjoy this tale.
If you'd like lighter fare, about a girl chasing her dreams more than surviving serpents aligned against her, check out my original take on Jessica's tale. http://www.royalroadl.com/fiction/8549/squire-of-war-version-10
PS whichever path you choose, fear not. Converging timelines (a link at the end of this story :) lets me port readers right into book 2 in the series.

Captain Jack Mallory of the United Earth Marine Corps is wasting away on a space station in the middle of nowhere, the furthest he and his recon squad could possibly be from the fighting on Alpha Centauri. Under investigation, all he and his three men can do is wait, until an admiral appears with new orders, and the recording of a garbled transmission.
The UES Saturnus is an experimental starship that has just set out on its maiden voyage. An enigmatic race known as the Edra has objected to the Saturnus and its experimental equipment. Earth has ignored their protests.
"...this is Zulu-two-three... requesting assistance."
Mallory and his men are the only ones close enough to deal with an extremely sensitive situation.
"... Saturnus is compromised. Edra commandos are pushing... bridge is... secure. Captain... won't cease experiment... psychosis. Entire crew... affected."
There are just two problems. First, the voice on the recording is Mallory's. Second, the transmission is time coded; it hasn't been sent yet.
The Saturnus is not damaged. Not yet. Soon, it will be. The Saturnus is top secret for one very good reason, a reason which has forced the hand of the Edra. The Saturnus can travel through time.

This is the first story I've published. Since I've had success on RRL with Sorcery in Boston, I've decided to cancel my exclusivity deal with Amazon, and publish it here, as well. It's a short story, and much harsher than Sorcery in Boston. Please be advised that this story is not suitable for children at all.
Ailey’s final moments drew near. Her father came to pick her up from the hospital so she could spend her last hours with her parents. During her last moments as she sat on her deathbed, she looked at her father and uttered her final words.
“If only I could see the world you created...”
After taking the medicine that would sentence her to her final rest, she closed her eyes one last time.
Or so she thought...
Her eyes fluttered open to a pristine white chamber in confusion. Her father gazed at her from a screen on the wall across from her bed. A sigh of relief escaped from his lips.
